Kinja'd!!!

Work continues on my '79 Mongoose resto.

Found out that it is likely a Motomag, and not one of the more desirable Supergooses. I'm still skeptical of that conclusion but the preponderance of the evidence leans that way. No matter, the sentimental value of the bike far outweighs its monetary value.

I'm running out of parts to buy off eBay, and soon I'll need to disassemble everything in order to dip the frame, forks and other miscellaneous parts in something to remove the rust from the nickel and chrome plating. Should be done by the time the snow melts, although I'm still not sure what I'll do with it when I am.

Awesome. I'm the youngest of three sons. My Dad bought my oldest brother this bike(not mine pictured but same bike) around 1980. When my he outgrew the bike, unbeknownst to him, my Dad had it cleaned, new blue tires installed, and gave it to my next oldest brother for his birthday. The look on my oldest brothers face was priceless. By the time it was "handed down" to me around 1997, all the foam cladding, chain guard and reflectors had been destroyed, as well as a missing kickstand. As a young ignorant punk, I painted it black, replaced the torn seat with some cheap Wal-mart one, and replaced the handles and pedals with black ones.

I still have it to this day. When I have time I want to try and restore it to the above look. But it won't be easy with the stupid paint I put on it. This bike somehow survived 3 young ramp building children. We beat the shit out of this thing and it somehow withstood it.

Ah, this is awesome. Are you going completely OEM for this or are your going to add improved bits?

Love the Tuffs on it.

Not OEM but (mostly) period correct.

Very cool. Growing up, I always wanted an 88 Haro team Sport. Of course I never got it and made due with a Dyno that I bought second hand. Haro did a team sport retro model in 05 I think, with the old style graphics so I picked one up off ebay. I wish I had the time and patience to restore and old 88 team Sport but alas I do not. Best of luck with your project.

I have the frame/bars/forks/and seat of what I think is a late 70's early 80's mongoose. I bought it at a Goodwill and it had plastic yellow 5 spoke wheels, but the hub were shot so they got traded out for a set of wire spoke wheels I had laying around. I'll take some pics and post them later.

Check out vintagemongoose.com. If you can read the serial number on the bottom bracket you will be able to decode it and find out exactly what you have if it is a Mongoose.
